What happens when you come see us at Sydney Women’s Physiotherapy / Pelvic Connections?
For a Post-Partum Check, we usually see you around 6 weeks after birth, once you have begun settling into your new routine and had your GP or Obstetrician’s post-natal check.
Understanding Your Birth Journey
We will start by asking about your pregnancy and birth experience so we can understand what you have been through. We ask questions about how your bladder and bowels are functioning, as they can sometimes change after delivery.
Assessment
Your physiotherapist may perform:
- A tummy separation (abdominal separation) check
- Lower back and pelvic assessments if you are experiencing any pain or discomfort
- Assess your posture
- Core, hip, gluteal muscle strength
Pelvic Floor Assessment
If you have concerns about your pelvic floor function, we can offer an assessment which may include:
- Ultrasound
- External examination of pelvic floor muscles
- Internal vaginal examination to determine the strength, function and coordination of your pelvic floor muscles
- Screen for prolapse
- Internal rectal examination – if there has been a significant perineal tear affecting muscles that control bowel motions (i.e. 3rd or 4th degree tear)
We always ask for your consent before performing any examinations
Management Plan
Your treatment will depend on your needs, goals, and any symptoms you may be experiencing (i.e. return to exercise). We take pride in looking after you holistically.
We also offer a range of group exercise programs throughout the week to help you gradually regain and build strength, confidence, and function after delivery.
